Personal coaching is a collaborative process where you partner with a coach to identify and achieve goals, solve problems and overcome challenges, and set action plans to make positive changes in your life. It is a creative and structured approach in which your personal coach offers ongoing support and accountability to help you move toward your desired outcomes.

  • A client can be an individual, team or group. Often clients come to coaching when they are at cross-roads and in need of a fresh perspective to achieve progress.

    • The coaching process is a client-driven journey, where you provide the focus of the discussion and identify your desired outcomes. Based on the belief that clients are the experts in their own lives and professions, the process empowers you to identify challenges, and discover your own solutions and strategies to achieve your goals.

    • The coach listens actively, asks powerful questions, and navigates the discussion to lead to greater clarity and self-awareness. The coach also promotes your accountability toward next steps, while fostering an environment of growth, confidence and pride in your decision making.

The flow of the coaching process may follow these high level steps:

    1. Open. A coaching session typically opens with the topic that you would like to address, why the topic is important to you as a client, your desired outcome and how success should be measured.

    2. Explore. The session continues to explore your topic through thought provoking questions, reframing and visioning. The results of any assessments conducted prior to the coaching may also be reviewed.

    3. Close. The session closes with your reflection and insights learned, your next steps, accountability toward your goal, and any strategies to overcome potential obstacles. Progress made since a prior coaching session is also celebrated!

  • Mentoring, therapy and coaching are distinct approaches for a client’s personal or professional development:

    • A mentor provides their subject matter expertise, wisdom, and guidance based on their personal experiences.

    • A therapist deals with healing pain, trauma, dysfunction or conflict of some kind, typically with the goal of resolving difficulties that impair an individual’s emotional health and psychological functioning.

    • In contrast, coaching focuses on facilitating individuals or groups to draw upon their own experiences and capabilities to set and reach their own objectives. The coach is the expert in the coaching process, but you are the expert on your life and professional journey. Coaching helps you find your own solutions and strategies, fostering self-reliance and growth.

  • No one succeeds alone. A coach can encourage you to block out essential time to work through challenges and goals.

The greatest hurdle is often not the change itself but the uncertainty it creates.

When it comes to teams, coaching helps leaders navigate this uncertainty by building trust, fostering self awareness and improving team dynamics. A skilled coach will guide you to align your potential with opportunities, clarify your vision, and create action plans rooted in your core values. Coaching provides the support needed to overcome obstacles and make meaningful, lasting progress.

    • Approach each session with openness and curiosity. Remember, this is a safe space where you are valued, and your voice matters.

    • Come prepared with a challenge or goal in mind to focus our work.

    • Be open to tough, thought-provoking questions. Trust your intuition, acknowledge your biases, and challenge any limiting beliefs that may be holding you back.

    • Be ready to take action—sometimes uncomfortable or outside your comfort zone—as you strive for extraordinary growth.

    • Practice self-compassion. Learning new behaviors and facing setbacks is a natural part of the process.

    • Celebrate your successes!

    • Finally, try your best to be on time.

By embracing these practices, you’ll get the most out of your coaching journey and set yourself up for meaningful transformation.
